My Research-Trailer Analysis 2
My Research- trailer analysis 2
Twilight Breaking Dawn Teaser Trailer
Even though this teaser trailer is only fifty seconds long it is a well edited teaser showing a short summary of the new Twilight film , it shows a range of edits and the trailer it told from 'Bella' the main character in the film's perspective, the voice over describes the plot of the film as there is no alot of text in the teaser. The trailer also has non-diegetic music which has a stereotypical eeriness to it as it relates to the eeriness of the film in the trailer.
The trailer starts with an establishing shot of the mountains to set the scene and for the audience to identify the scenery of where it is. Also the mountains relate to the vampires as the ice is cold like their skin but also setting the scene. The voice over says 'After eighteen years of being utterly ordinary' straight away the trailer informs us the way she feels about her new change as she is a vampire. A range of camera shots; mid shot, close ups and medium close ups are shown of 'Edward' touching her body to show his love and admiration for Bella and to show their similarities.
The close up of the hands also show their rings showing their marriage and commitment to each other. This also represents the passion in their relationship. The colours that they are wearing show the contrast of blue and white, the white resembles the innocence and happiness and the blue represents the tranquil and calmness, which is ironic as the trailer influences the big finish to film as being 'war like'.
The eerrie background of dark clouds reflect the non diegetic music of the synchronous theme. The Gold writing is continued as the same style and colour in the trailer, also the same fonts are used on the books, DVDs and merchandise. This makes a clear understanding to the audience; so that the audience know that the writing is the same in the film and is easily recognisable. I am going to include this idea in my trailer as my audience will be able to recognise the font. Also the font and the background presents the genre of the film and the contrast of the bold font compliments the background of the dark clouds. This also shows that the theme of this film is not a happy film, but a thriller, drama or a horror.
Overall I like the idea of doing an unusual film which 'Twilight' is, also I want to make my trailer a different film to the normal film story lines that are used often. This trailer has good edits and is quick to inform the audience of the storyline and the genre of the film my aim for my trailer is that I would like to either have a theme of having my film gene either; horror, drama or thriller as these themes appeal to me the most. Also I want my audience to know the genre in the first ten seconds of my trailer as I want it to be effective.

My Research- Trailer Analysis 1
My Research
I wanted to look at trailers for my research to see the genres of films and editing that is shown also the story lines and how they are captured, the sounds used whether it was ambient, voice over, non-diegetic or diegetic to see what worked and what was a good example of it.
The book 'What To Expect When You're Expecting' By Heidi Murkoff was a very popular book.
|
The first trailer I looked at was 'what to expect when you're expecting' a new film that is recently been released into the cinemas. Originally it was a book but has been turned into a film The trailer starts with the logos of who made the film with a cloudy background this could resemble the tranquillity of bringing new life into the world and the sense of new birth to fit in with the film. Text is used to inform the audience when it is coming out 'In 2012' and pun's like 'we're due' to represent the theme of pregnancy throughout the film the word 'Due' in a bold font to enhance that the meaning of it is double and to show that the theme is pregnancy. 'For a brutally honest' informs the audience a film that will not cover up something, this edit fades into a black background and into a scene of a spokes person whom is a pregnant woman informing a crowd of people her feelings on pregnancy, from seeing this you already know that the film will be 'brutually honest', the stereotype and symtomns of pregnancy are named and the woman is hysterical. Non-diegetic music asynchronous to the music of 'Relax' by Frankie Goes to Hollywood is played to show the irony that she is not relaxed and to add humour to show the upbeat and happiness where she is emotional. Between each clip there is a word 'confusing' with a white background and pink font to resemble that it is a 'girly' film.
The trailer has fast edits and the words before the clips are related to them as the word 'confusing' is shown before a clip to show the situation of people being confused that her husband is her dad as the man is older than her, throughout the clip it is clear that the film represents comedy and shows a realistic stereotypes of women when they're pregnant and different situations form both the mother and the father. Different situations from the start of a relationship to adoption, pregnancy and child birth are all examples shown. A slow motion edit is shown to slow down the time of the men walking with their prams and an upbeat non-diegetic music is played synchronous that the men look 'cool' and instead of taking drugs a man takes his asthma pump as his age is slowing him down another husband drinks apple juice instead of alcohol, these examples show how they are 'cool' parents and even though they could be doing those things it is ironic that they are not. At the end of the trailer cut edits change the actors pictures with their names in them to show the people starring in the film to gain advertisement and to show all the actors starring in the film as some people have favourite actors and if that actor is in the film they are more likely to go and see it. At the end of the trailer an edit of a woman's head which has gold around it to resemble her amazing brightness that she is simply 'a magical pregnancy unicorn' as she walks in six inch heels, a non diegetic song is played to emphasise the 'magical'. This is a clever trailer showing humour, real life and situations that are interesting, I would personally like to see this film as it appeals to me, the genre is for teenagers to adults which it is targeted at.
Looking at this trailer made me realise that I don't want to make my film into a romantic film or comedy as it will be harder to make and to attempt it too. I think I would like to make a film on a new issue maybe cyber bullying or a different storyline, or maybe even something very personal or issues that go on in peoples lives that may've effected them in the past or will in the future.Even though I'm not going to compose my film in this genre it made me realise what I don't want to base my genre around, also it was still good research as it made me appreciate this trailer more by breaking down what the colours, words and clips helped the build up to the film.

Proposal
Proposal
I have chosen to chose brief number two as I feel I would like to do something different to my previous coursework and this brief will be different but will also teach me new skills and a chance to try something new in media.
With composing a trailer for a new film I will brain storm ideas and complete research into what genres and the type of film I would like to make. Also if it would be a good time to bring awareness to a certain issue I would like to bring up to raise awareness that people can relate to audience identification. This could be cyber bullying or mental health issues. I just want to try something different and make my trailer look professional and have a clear understanding to it and a good trailer;camera shots, edits, props, colours to symbolise certain meanings. I am excited to make my trailer and also the ancillary tasks that go along side it as I did a music magazine I can apply the magazine layout to the magazine I will make in this project, but also it will enable me to develop my skills. Doing a film poster will also allow me to try a new layout and use the conventions of typical film posters and try to challenge the conventions to make my poster be different but also to follow conventions of a typical film poster.
